Place of birth?

Two references in the article currently claim two different places of birth. Which is correct? Lone boatman (talk) 12:34, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Yami Gautam. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Yami Gautam/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

I'll review this. It might take me a few days to complete the review. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:02, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

I'll start with spotchecks of the sources.

  • FN 30 cites "After making her acting debut as the lead in the 2009 Kannada-language film Ullasa Utsaha, Gautam made her Bollywood debut in a leading role in Shoojit Sircar's romantic comedy Vicky Donor (2012). Co-starring opposite debutante Ayushmann Khurrana, Annu Kapoor, and Dolly Ahluwalia, she portrayed Ashima Roy, a Bengali woman who falls in love with the titular character, a Punjabi lad from the Arora family, and gets to know about his past after their marriage." I see no mention of Ullasa Utsaha, and the source doesn't support "romantic comedy", or the names of her costars, or in fact most of the details.
  • FN 36 cites "In 2015, Gautam appeared alongside Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sriram Raghavan's action thriller Badlapur." Verified.
  • FN 48 cites "She next reunited with Khurrana in Amar Kaushik's comedy-drama Bala, a satire on physical attractiveness, which was released on 7 November 2019. Also featuring Bhumi Pednekar, the film opened to positive reviews, with Gautam unanimously receiving acclaim for her portrayal of Pari Mishra, a ditsy Tik Toker and a part-time model hailing from Lucknow, who, upon finding out about her husband's baldness, feels cheated and leaves him." The release date is not in the source. I don't think it really supports "satire on physical attractiveness" either. There's also nothing to support "unanimously", or that she's from Lucknow, or that her husband is bald.
  • FN 57 cites "Gautam was cast in the lead role of Naina Jaiswal, a playschool teacher who takes 16 children hostage. On 17 February 2022, the film premiered on Disney+ Hotstar." The source doesn't support "playschool" -- it only says "school" -- and doesn't give the number of children taken hostage. And a minor point: the source is dated 10 February so we can't use it to definitely say something happened on 17 February.
  • FN 31 cites "The film, which marked Bollywood actor John Abraham's production debut, received positive reviews from critics and proved to be a major commercial success as one of the highest-grossing films of the year with worldwide grossing of ₹645 million (US$3.9 million). For her debut performance, Gautam received critical acclaim as well as several awards and nominations, including the award for Best Female Debut (tied with Ileana D'Cruz for Barfi!) at the Zee Cine Awards, and a nomination under the same category at the 58th Filmfare Awards." The source appears just to be some celebrity stats at bollywoodhungama.com which covers none of this information.

Four out of the five citations I checked had problems. I'm going to fail this on that basis. I would suggest going through every citation before renominating it -- a spotcheck must come back clean for the GA to be promoted. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:29, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Article relies heavily on Trivial many information

Hi 19Arham, Noticed that you are reverting the cleaning part of this article done by me, which was done to improve the quality of this article. I appreciate your enthusiasm as an editor, however-

  • Encyclopedia, cannot rely on passion of fandom, where one may be excited to put year-by-year each work of the artist on the 'Main Body' of the article.
  • Too many unnecessary co-stars, directors, lengthy review/ details of her each work is mentioned in the body.
  • Filmography table is there mentioning all her works. Only the essential work occupies space on main body under 'Career' section.
  • Lengthy explanation on Filmography or notes on its performance, unless it dynamically/ majorly impacted her career is not required.
  • All trivial many of her works is not required.

Either you edit/clean/concise all these trivial many information; OR retain the edits done by other editors to improve the quality of this article. Would like to understand your opinion too, as I could understand our intentions are same. Regards (Adding experience Editor/Admin for NPOV)

Please refer WP:BLP, LEAD section to be precise and concise. Career section to be limited to artist details & not mini FILM Wiki paragraph. You always ignored talk page, and questioned on the reasons, when everything is already joted here. I request you to understand the context, before assuming. Your revert reasons are not aligned with the context/ talk page post.

To be completely honest, this makes no sense. The fact you think including "year by year" work in a section literally dedicated to documenting the entirety of an actor's career is optional is mind-boggling as Gautam is a lead in Dhoom Dhaam. Please see MOS:BIO. 19Arham (talk) 23:46, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
Regret to mention, you have serious comprehensive issue. Overlook of the bulletin. Heading itself is self explanatory, even then you removed maintenance template.
(Request a admin to intervene- as this User don't get the context/ BLP/ BIO policy. Adding every details on the page/ body of the article. Argument- Person is lead in the movie. Drmies_talk
WP:BLP: Biographies of living persons ("BLPs") must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid.
BLPs should be written responsibly, cautiously, and in a dispassionate tone, avoiding both understatement and overstatement.
MOS:BIO- CHRONO/TRIVIA: early says-
  • Avoid collections of miscellaneous facts or examples, since Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information.
It's not on year-by-year details, it's on trivial many every work in detail (lengthy paragraph on producer/ director/entire casts/ plot summary/ reviews/ box-office : like mini MOSFILM) placed in artists Encyclopedia. SakuraSmart (talk) 06:41, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Red flags under WP: BLP BLP-violating relationship claims: Gossip/ Speculation on past unconfirmed relationships

Wikipedia does not allow speculation or gossip presented as fact in articles. Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation, rumors, or presumptions. WP:CRYSTAL, WP:SPECULATION, WP:UNDUE

All source/text is exactly the textbook example of what Wikipedia policies say not to use.

  • Rumoured been a couple
  • They never admitted to being together
  • Unfollowed each other on social media
  • Gossip framing, Social-media behavior used as “evidence”, Sensational or judgmental language.

Under WP:BLP + WP:UNDUE context: -Not confirmed by the subject

  • WP:No Original Research WP:NOR:- Editors can’t piece together clues or “read between the lines” to imply a relationship.
  • WP:RS — source vs subject problem

A third-party “confirmation” like this is not sufficient for Wikipedia, especially for a living person’s private relationship.

  • Indirect confirmation (ex-spouse, friend, “sources close to”) is not enough
  • 3rd party- Not an independent reliable source
  • Personally involved: conflict of interest statements are not secondary reporting.
  • Media Coverage is mostly entertainment gossip.
