Tata Mutual Fund is an Indian private asset management company introduced by the Tata Group and incorporated in 1994 with its corporate head office located in Mumbai, India.[6][7][8] It manages mutual funds, portfolio management services, and retirement solutions.[9]
History
The mutual fund industry in India originally began in 1963 with the Unit Trust of India (UTI) as a Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India initiative. Tata Mutual Fund was launched in March 1994, and became non-UTI mutual fund in India. The business is registered under registration number INP000001058. The registration number for Tata Asset Management Ltd. as a mutual fund is MF/023/95/9. It also runs Tata Asset management (Mauritius) Pvt. Ltd. a foreign institutional investor (FII) that is registered with SEBi under registration number INMUFD161207.[10]
In July 2023, DCB Bank received RBI approval to sell 7.5% stake to Tata Mutual Fund.[11]
In January 2024, TMF launched its Tata Gold Exchange Traded Fund.[12][13]
In July 2024, Tata Mutual Fund launched India's first tourism index fund "Tata Nifty India Tourism Index Fund".[14][15]
In November 2024, Tata Mutual Fund acquired stake in Motilal Oswal Financial Services, TMF bought 375,000 shares of Motilal Oswal.[16]
In December 2024, Tata Mutual Fund and SBI Mutual Fund together acquired 1.12% stake of Ratnamani Metals & Tubes worth ₹262 crore.[17]
In May 2025, the company acquired 2.81% stake in Sundaram-Clayton Ltd from promoter entity.[18]
In August 2025, NPST allotted shares worth Rs 300 crore to Tata Mutual Fund.[19]
In September 2025, TMF filed draft document with Sebi for a hybrid long-short fund under SIF category.[20] At the same time it launched Tata Nifty Next 50 Index Fund, an open-ended scheme that aims to track and replicate the performance of the Nifty Next 50 Index (TRI).[21] And received approval to launch Tata India Dynamic Equity Fund at Gujarat's GIFT City with a minimum investment ticket size of US$500.[22][23]
Suspension
On 14 October 2025, Tata Mutual Fund announced a temporarily suspension of Subscription to units in Tata Silver ETF Fund.[24]
The company resumed its investment for Silver ETF Fund on 24 October 2025.[25]
Fake Identity of TMF
Several fraudulent websites, mobile applications, and WhatsApp groups were created using the name of Tata Mutual Fund.[26]
In May 2024, Tata Mutual Fund released a public caution notice warning investors and partners about fraudulent websites, mobile apps, and WhatsApp groups.[27]
