Commission nationale consultative des droits de l'homme

Hope you are doing great. Regarding CNCDH, yes i did verify the resources. Can you please share your concerns? ResearcherGeek (talk) 20:22, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

ResearcherGeek, this is regarding this edit at Commission nationale consultative des droits de l'homme. The wording used sounds like it was written by a chat bot and the citation is a bare url. We would like articles to be written in your own words, using sources you have read and summarizing those sources. If you rewrite this content using your own words and add a complete citation, you can put the material back. Do you need help with how to write a citation? Question from Rubangakene victor warid (11:59, 3 December 2025)

Hello how were can I fill my biography --Rubangakene victor warid (talk) 11:59, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Rubangakene victor warid, you can use your own user page at User:Rubangakene victor warid to give some very brief details about yourself, but if you mean how do you create a biograpy about yourself for inclusion in Wikipedia as a regular, encyclopedic article, this is very much discouraged. If you are WP:Notable enough, someone else may create the biography of you, but you should not contribute to it, to avoid a possible conflict of interest. Does this answer your question? Question from Scorpian66 (01:43, 10 December 2025)

I am concerned with a gradual shift toward Leftist Bias in their information. I think it is important to let people know that contributions to Wikipedia are defacto contributions to Leftist positions and causes. I have been a long term supporter for Wikipedia but I will no longer support clearly biased positions. Further it is important to make sure the general public is aware of this bias because as prevalent in information services as Wikipedia is it must be counterbalanced or even dissolved. --Scorpian66 (talk) 01:43, 10 December 2025 (UTC)

Scorpian66, nobody should support clearly biased positions, but it's hard to know what you are referring to without a link. Can you please link the article, or at least, tell me its name, and I will be better able to help you with it. There is very little I can do otherwise. Thanks for getting involved with Wikipedia, and I look forward to your contributions! Mathglot (talk) 04:01, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Mathglot, Thank you for your response.
I am an aerospace Process Engineer by trade and believe in precision and fact based processes. In example I will use the article referring to the News website Fox News. I would consider Fox news generally mainstream in it's positions with a very slight tilt to the right in political stance. Here is their descriptive article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_News). Now compare it with a known Left skewed news site CNN news (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNN). When you do this comparison CNN is self admittedly "Woke" and "Left" oriented where Fox News is attempting to remain centered even to the point of adding Left leaning editors, news shows and programs. Look at the two descriptions and the way that each is handled. I would love to hear your opinion; keep in mind that I am not Right oriented politically. I do not support President Trump; not because I disagree with all of his policies but because his concerns are for self gratification not the welfare of the USA. If you prefer we can continue this discussion in German or Arabic if either of those languages is easier for you. I wonder, judging by your name, if you are a physics lover also? Perhaps you play Bridge? Scorpian66 (talk) 05:40, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Scorpian66, as someone who has been here for nearly two decades I can tell you that the central point you are making above has come up umpteen times, and so I will decline to get involved here on my Talk page, as I've heard it all before. That said, I can tell you that there is another venue that is the right place to discuss it, and the first stop for doing is the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, where numerous editors interested in source reliability gather to discuss exactly such questions. The second stop arose later, when it was noticed after some years at the RS Noticeboard that some sources and discussions kept coming up over and over, and in order to save time not reinventing the wheel on discussions about sources that has been held numerous times before, a separate venue was created called Wikipedia:Perennial sources (RSP). This page lists about 500 sources that have had come up repeatedly at RSN and attempts to summarize all the discussions about a source, and where feasible, give an evaluation of source reliability based on those discussions, to save you from having to read disparate discussions filed away in various discussion archives.
So there is no real benefit to be had by discussing this just with me, when nothing much would result from it just based on two editors' opinions on a Talk page where nobody else will hear about it. I would suggest you instead have a look at WP:RSP for whatever sites like Fox or CNN that you are interested in, follow the links from there to past discussions, and once armed with the gist of past discussions, then head over to WP:RSN, and raise the question you asked above there instead. Please {{ping}} me to it if you do. About other things: I tried Bridge for a while, many of my friends enjoyed it, but I didn't and gave it up. I like physics, but only as the rankest of amateurs. Question from Wamao12 (07:47, 12 December 2025)

Hello Mathglot, How can I add verified sources to a page to remove the flagging banners? --Wamao12 (talk) 07:47, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Wamao12. Can I assume we are talking about the article Timothy Williams (author), and the {{BLP unreferenced section}} banners you see there? And are you asking how to find sources for the page, or you already have sources and you want to know how to add citations to the article using the sources you have on hand? Let me leave you with Help:Referencing for beginners as a starting point, and please ask again with more detail. Mathglot (talk) 10:32, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Wamao12, just wanted to let you know that I have edited the banners at Timothy Williams (author) to add params that make the search string that you see in small print at the bottom of each of the banners more targeted to elicit better results. If your question is about finding sources, clicking those links is a good starting point. Mathglot (talk) 02:48, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from MindDrafts (09:45, 13 December 2025)

Hi, Dear Mathglot, I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to check with you whether my Wikipedia account is now considered active and trusted enough to start drafting a new article.

So far, I have:

Corrected spelling mistakes

Added or removed commas

Adjusted plural forms where needed

Removed a few extra words to improve readability

Could you advise me if my account is ready for drafting, or if there’s anything else I should do first?

Thanks so much for your guidance!

Best regards, MindDrafts --MindDrafts (talk) 09:45, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

MindDrafts, nice to see you contributing and getting involved. There are several levels of protection related to new users, and the first threshold is when you have ten edits and four days seniority, and you are close to that now. When you reach that level, you will be able to create articles, but not before. That said, creating an article is one of the most difficult tasks at Wikipedia, so I recommend you start off on some easier tasks, like those suggested at your homepage. If you are hell bent on starting a new article, get ready for a slog, read WP:Your first article, and feel free to contact me if you run into problems, which you should plan on running into! Look forward to your contributions here, and once again, welcome! Mathglot (talk) 09:57, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from LastLegend385 (18:12, 15 December 2025)

Hi Mathglot, I am an expert in reproductive physiology and translational fertility. If I found an error in the Wiki article, what is the best way to fix it: myself or reach out to an editor? Thanks --LastLegend385 (talk) 18:12, 15 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi, LastLegend385, and welcome! The best way is to fix it yourself. No expertise needed, btw, just an ability to find sources, and knowledge of how to create Wikipedia-style inline citations. Recommend you have a look at the suite of citation templates, such as {{cite book}}, {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}} (there are many others in the series). You may always choose to make an edit request instead, but the only time when that is strongly encouraged is when you have an edit conflict of some sort, and very definitely if you are paid by any entity relate to the article you want to edit. Other than that, just WP:BE BOLD!
By the way, experts in a field who are new to Wikipedia very often fall into the trap of adding content to articles without including a citation to a reliable source because they know the topic backwards and forwards and could expound for hours about it without cracking a book. Please don't do that. Even if you wrote the definitive textbook about a topic, you need to cite it (well, cite somebody else's, just to avoid a suspicion of WP:REFSPAM). Always cite assertions to a source; grammar changes, typos, rewording for clarity, etc., don't require citations. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 00:20, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @LastLegend385 Welcome to Wikipedia. Out of curiosity I looked at Ovum quality and noticed that as well as changing some content you also changed a couple of spellings. As Wikipedia is written by editors who use many versions of English, there are rules about which version to use when: basically, unless the article has a strong connection to a place, then the choice of version of English is made by the first editor who makes a substantial contribution to the article. (See WP:ENGVAR.) I've changed a couple of spellings back, and also added the "Use British English" and "Use dmy dates" templates, as it was originated by an editor based in Scotland. There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia, but it's an interesting journey. PamD 11:12, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
Thank you, PamD, for this guidance. ‘Fertilisation’ always rubs me the wrong way, but I will have to respect the rules. LastLegend385 (talk) 17:11, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from PA ZTI (10:43, 16 December 2025)

Hi how do i create a new article --PA ZTI (talk) 10:43, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi, PA ZTI. That's something that is a bit complicated, especially for a new user. I left you a Welcome message on your user Talk page with some helpful links to ease the learning process here. One of them includes detailed information about how to create a new article, but I really don't recommend it, as the first thing you try to do here. We can talk more about what you will need to learn in order to do that, but first, can you tell me what kind of articles you are interested in, and what you might want to write about? Mathglot (talk) 10:51, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
something about content creators, celebrities stuffs like that PA ZTI (talk) 13:15, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
PA ZTI, do you have someone in mind? The help page at Help:Your first article will walk you through it, but I'll be honest, it isn't easy, and as a new user it can be discouraging. Why not start out with some easier tasks first, and then work up to that? Your User homepage lists suggested edits for you; why not give that a try? Mathglot (talk) 20:30, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
i have a teenage celebrity in mind PA ZTI (talk) 20:40, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

me PA ZTI (talk) 20:47, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
That's complicated to the point of being near impossible. Please see WP:Conflict of interest. Basically, you can write about anybody or anything here at Wikipedia, except yourself and any other topics your are personally or professionally connected with. But if your media presence is about a particular topic or hobby, like college rugby, or goth fashion, or you name it, then you might be able to write about those in a general way, as long as it isn't about yourself, and you aren't paid or compensated in any way (e.g. freebees) related to it. Are you interested in trying that? Can I ask what your areas of interest are? Mathglot (talk) 20:59, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Sigh. I wish I shared your optimism.

Yours truly, CapnZapp (talk) 09:55, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Capn. Looks like 35 of them were moved. Of those, there were three testcases or sandbox files that didn't; I have the list somewhere. And then there are, as you indicate, some 'unregistered' that didn't get moved. I think given the close, it is fine for us to move them. There's obviously some sort of mass-move script out there somewhere, but I've never used it, and I probably wouldn't use it, as the potential for damage is pretty high; in any case, there are only eight with that term (plus their /doc and /sandbox pages), and we can just do those manually. On the other hand, there are a bunch of redirects that need adjustment, but most of those seem low priority. Spread the optimism; it's the season! Mathglot (talk) 17:03, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Claracima on Daniel Giménez (football manager) (14:31, 23 December 2025)

Hola ¿como puedo eliminar " vida personal" no me deja eliminarlo. Gracias --Claracima (talk) 14:31, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Me explico claramente? Mathglot (talk) 04:16, 26 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from ThyCheshireCat (18:35, 30 December 2025)

I'm working a draft right now and most things are rather easy to figure out, but I'm struggling to get Notes to work. As the article I'm cooking up deals with a topic that requires me to briefly explain a few secondary things that don't have pages of their own, it'd be nice to know how. --ThyCheshireCat (talk) 18:35, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi, ThyCheshireCat. It would help to have a link to the page you are talking about so I can see where the difficulty lies. In a very general way, and assuming you are talking about explanatory notes, you should have a look at templates {{efn}} (place in-line, in the body) and {{notelist}} (place at the end, in the References section). If those links don't solve the problem, come back with some more details, I can help you better. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 22:22, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Thanks!! These've been working perfectly for what I'm looking for! ThyCheshireCat (talk) 10:40, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

Best way forward in creating a wiki commons and editing a specific Wikipedia entry

Hello Mathglot.

I am a fan of Wikipedia and I applaud the projects that Wikimedia is championing. I am an experienced academic writer with multiple publications in refereed academic journals in law and the social sciences. I have read Wikimedia's copyright policies and have no problem with them. I am reasonably proficient with IT.

But I am now bewildered by all the hurdles that have now presented themselves to me.

I have two very simple projects. I am a member of a small village community and I wish to create for it two things:

(a) A Wikicommons archive to house and provide public access to important historical/cutural heritage files for the community (consisting of documents in PDF form, photos, sound and AV recordings)

(b) An expanded Wikipedia entry to replace a rather basic entry about this village that someone or a bot placed on Wikipedia some time ago.

I now find myself in a position where (1) as a new user I have been blocked in uploading PDFs (notwithstanding my very careful statement of the compliant free use licence expressly given by the author of the work); and (2) I have to serve a long apprenticeship (500 edits I am informed) before I can upload PDFs to the Wikicommons or get near to re-writing the basic village Wikipedia entry.

The interface is pretty clunky - it is very 1990s programming style commands. All of this is operating rather powerfully from proceeding further - it just seems a bit too hard.

Is there some simpler way I can achieve my objectives (a) and (b) above? I would be grateful for your advice. KalloniEditor7 (talk) 20:51, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi KalloniEditor7, thanks for your message, and I am sorry you are running into all these difficulties. I will help you to the best of my abilities, but I can tell you that (a) and (b) belong to two different Wikipedia projects, as you seem to be aware from having mentioned Wikicommons, which is where all our media are stored which are available in common for all 300+ Wikipedias, not to mention multiple sister projects. I should certainly be able to help you with (b), and I have no doubt we can get the article fixed up satisfactorily, one way or another. I am only somewhat knowledgeable about Wikicommons, and I can point you in the right direction(s), but any definitive answers about what you may do and in what manner must come from experienced users there. Don't worry, there are Help facilities there, just as there are here. I do know that uploading archives is welcome; the Met in NYC has uploaded half a million items to Commons, and is very happy with the result. More people find their items via Wikicommons, than by searching the Met website. So it makes sense to do so for Kalloni. Can you link the response where someone told you that you cannot upload them?
Let's start out first with the village article. I can safely assume we are talking about Kalloni, Grevena. Who told you that you need to have 500 edits before you can edit the article? This is false, as the article is already created. It is true that there are certain restrictions based on edit-count seniority, and the 500-edit level is called WP:Extended confirmed, and you need that in order to *create* a new article, but not to edit one. (There are certain articles that are considered contentious, or subject to increased vandalism, or for whatever reason are limited to users with extended confirmed status; if you go to the Charlie Kirk article for example, you will see a blue padlock upper right with an 'E' for 'Extended' protection, so you won't be able to edit that one yet. Not so, however, for the Kalloni, Grevena article. Did you try to edit it? What happened?
There is, however, another wrinkle. Based on your username, it seems clear you have some sort of relationship with the Kalloni locality. This might, or might not present a problem. I will leave you a standardized, canned message on your Talk page that you should have a look at and follow the links to see if it applies to you, and what (if anything) you need to do about it.
Finally, I very much hope you do stick around, and I will try to smooth the bumps as much as I can. I do have one favor to ask you: at some point, whether you decide to stay or leave, would you be willing to leave some feedback detailing the pain points you have gone through in on-boarding here? There is a WP:WikiProject called WP:WikiProject Editor Retention concerned solely with keeping valuable editors and new editor candidates welcome and satisfied so they continue to contribute. Judging from your background, level of introspection, and ability to clearly express your thoughts, I think your remarks would be very valuable. (But stay!)
I hope that this is at least a start in answering your questions. Please follow-up with links to previous responses, and I may be able to help you better. And stay tuned for the promised boilerplate message I mentioned. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 23:03, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Mathglot - Thank you very much for your response. I will try to provide the information requested:
 1. Yes, I have entered the entry for Kalloni, Grevena and have been successful in editing it. I am doing bit by bit, so that is helping me bump up the edit count, so that I can get to some level of 'seniority".
 2. Although I have an association with the locality, I am not really in a conflict of interest situation - athough I do understand your point, and I have no quarrel with Wikimedia's sensible policy on that issue. My initial intention was to get the ball rolling, and then get some of my other villagers involved in the editing and translating process. Having read your comment, I have now reflected upon the fact that it might have been better to have a selected a less locality-specific username. I will ask the question, but I get the sinking feeling that it is probably impossible to change username.... Is that right? 3. I will try to send you the earlier editor response.
KalloniEditor7 (talk) 01:35, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
KalloniEditor7, Ha, our messages crossed, while I was dropping the coi templated message on your Talk page. Jumping to #2: you most certainly can change username, but you shouldn't do it because it somehow hides a connection; you would still have to declare your connection if a COI is involved, no matter what your username is. Whether to change or not is mostly up to you, I think it is compliant, but you can read the policy here. I know two editors who have edited for years as '<Famous-singer>-fan', so it's certainly possible. I will try to remember to drop a username-related message on your Tlk page as well, a bit later. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 01:44, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
KalloniEditor7, I re-read my message, and realized one part was ambiguous. You may certainly change your username, but changing it won't alter the coi requirement for disclosure. Hope this clarifies, in case there was any confusion. Mathglot (talk) 21:10, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Mathglot! Good job with {{Sfnlink}}! I saw you played already with one of the modules I created, and recently I came up with a few ideas on how to improve {{Sfnlink}} as well using Params. Currently the template calls the {{Sfnlink/encode}} subtemplate to sanitize each unnamed parameter, and this calls {{#invoke:string|replace}} three times; this means that when {{Sfnlink}} is transcluded there could be up to twelve module calls—also {{#invoke:string|replace}} currently uses mw.ustring.gsub(), which is quite slow and is not needed in this case. The whole thing could be simplified to three module calls in total and without {{Sfnlink/encode}}, independently of how many parameters are passed to the template. Here is a possible version that reproduces the current behavior:

[[:{{{lang|en}}}:{{#if: {{{rev|}}}
	| Special:Permalink/{{{rev}}}
	| {{#ifeq: {{{article|}}} | *
 | {{SUBJECTPAGENAME}}
 | {{{article|}}}
	}}
}}#{{sfnlink/prefix|{{{lang|en}}}}}{{#invoke:params|
	excluding_non-numeric_names|
	squeezing|
	mapping_by_replacing|''+||
	mapping_by_replacing|'|'|plain|
	mapping_by_replacing|"|"|plain|
	sequential|
	<noinclude>setting|n|Doe1997|</noinclude>
	list_values
}}|{{{text|{{#invoke:params|
	squeezing|
	cutting|0|1|
	sequential|
	setting|i/l/s<noinclude>/n</noinclude>|, | & |, & |<noinclude>Doe|</noinclude>
	list_values
}} {{#if:{{{nb|}}}
	| {{#invoke:params|squeezing|cutting|-1|0|<noinclude>setting|n|1997|</noinclude>value_of|1}}
	| ({{#invoke:params|squeezing|cutting|-1|0|<noinclude>setting|n|1997|</noinclude>value_of|1}})
}}}}}]]{{#if: {{{p|{{{page|<noinclude>1</noinclude>}}}}}} | p. {{{p|{{{page|<noinclude>123</noinclude>}}}}}}}}{{#if: {{{pp|{{{pages|}}}}}} | pp. {{{pp|{{{pages|}}}}}}}}<!--
-->{{#if: {{{loc|}}} | {{#if: {{{p|{{{page|}}}}}}{{{pp|{{{pages|}}}}}} | ,}} {{{loc|}}}}}<noinclude>{{documentation}}</noinclude>

It should be properly tested in the sandbox first, but the preview seems working fine. I have left “Doe (1997) p. 123” for the template page, but maybe an error message should be displayed when no parameters are passed (and the whole template wrapped within <includeonly>...<includeonly>)? What do you think? Happy hacking! --Grufo (talk) 01:15, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Grufo, thanks for your message! I speed-read it (cuz swamped elsewhere) and it looks very promising. I have long been interested in module:params and have plans to learn more about it, as I have a hunch that it could be used to turbocharge {{Edit}} preloads (more on that another time) and other things. Template language is notorious for how inefficient it is, and I love hearing how things can be made more efficient by improvements of this nature. I love hearing from you, and watching what you are interested in, or up to. I'll get back to you on this. Have a Happy New Year! Mathglot (talk) 01:24, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
That's really nice to hear! Yes, that is the spirit in which I created that module. It does not turn wikitext into a Turing-complete language, but I hope it brings it a bit closer. I know that the documentation can look scary, but than I think that a shorter documentation would be even scarier to look at. As for {{Edit}} preloads, maybe you can have a look at how {{Preload}} uses that module to support infinite preload parameters (but I don't know what you have in mind). For instance, to support |arg1=, |arg2=, … |argN=, this should do:
{{#invoke:params|sequential|with_name_matching|^arg%d+$|renaming_by_replacing|^arg(%d+)$|%1|1|squeezing|setting|ih|&preloadparams%5b%5d{{=}}|magic_for_each_value|urlencode|QUERY}}
I will be happy to answer your questions, if you have any! Happy new year! --Grufo (talk) 01:39, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Mathglot. The sandbox is now with this version. The testcases page seems alright. I'll pass now the ball to you. --Grufo (talk) 02:58, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Nkbok (09:53, 2 January 2026)

What's your favourite source for finding your own pictures to submit --Nkbok (talk) 09:53, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Nkbok, not quite sure I understand, because if you really mean, 'my own pictures', then my favorite source is my camera. But I think you probably meant something else. Can you clarify? Mathglot (talk) 09:56, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
i mean finding pictures online that are allowed on Wikipedia Nkbok (talk) 10:06, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
Nkbok, I don't upload *that* many images myself, but by far the easiest, are images I take myself. These are almost guaranteed acceptance, because they don't violate any copyright. Searching for images online is harder, because of the licensing restrictions, but you could try Flickr. Users there have the option to place their images under CC BY-SA and other compatible licenses, and if you find one like that, you can upload it (like thousands have already been uploaded). But it is crucial to understand what copyright pertains to the original image, before you upload it. More information about this is available at Wikicommons; try asking specific questions at c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright. Hope this helps! Mathglot (talk) 10:14, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

LLM Translation

Incidentally, for curiosity's sake I tried running an article from the Spanish wiki through the OKA workflow with Grok, after first doing an entirely manual translation myself. I think the results were pretty good, but had some problems. I'm curious how many of the problems you would catch on review, or if you would notice the same ones I noticed. -- LWG talk (VOPOV) 03:47, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

(talk page stalker). Many links to disambiguation pages. No image in the infobox. Hyphens instead of dashes for year ranges. "Hernando de Magallanes" in the translated quotation. Nonexistent {{Siglo}} used. Untranslated text in |pages= of a citation template. "«" characters used instead of quotation marks. Nonexistent categories added. Many citation template parameter value errors. These are all things that human translators do in draft articles every single day, many of which I find myself tagging and correcting even after they go through the AFC process and are moved to article space. The prose is much better than that produced by a typical human translator. Pretty damn impressive in my book. If you hadn't told me it was LLM-generated, I don't think I would have had a way to know. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:52, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi, LWG, and thanks for this useful experiment. Tbh, I haven't got past the page title yet. It is interesting to note that whereas es:Nao has equivalents in 14 languages (Q516239, English is not one of them. Otoh, en:Carrack (Q220635) has equivalents in 44 languages, including Spanish (es:Carraca (embarcación)). An attempt at an unbiased search in google books shows support for both nao and carrack, with perhaps a lean towards carrack. I would have to go deeper to find what the page should be called in English, but if carrack is right, then that might call into question things like whether the two Wikidata items are really separate topics, and why Spanish has es:Nao and es:Carraca (embarcación) (and so do a number of other languages) but we don't. The last sentence of the lead paragraph of es:Nao shows that Spanish Wikipedia definitely considers them two topics.
The only 'body test' I did was to see if it got the translation of Malvinas right (which it did), but that's a pretty low bar. I can imagine some handy tools that might help, such as a template or script that would find the three longest sentences, and spot-check those, and just thinking about it, all sorts of other little 'sampling tests' (to avoid having to proofread or re-translate the whole thing) come to mind. Maybe we should have a whole, 'nother discussion about that somewhere; I bet people would contribute all sorts of useful ideas. Thanks for providing this example; more like these could also be a good way to add data to the pot. 7804j might want to comment, due to the Grok and OKA connection. Mathglot (talk) 05:47, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind words. The title came from me, not Grok. I chose "(carrack)" simply because San Antonio (ship) wasn't available and we already had Concepción (carrack). I would welcome input if there's a better option there. -- LWG talk (VOPOV) 06:33, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Fiscal pedaling

Notice

The article Fiscal pedaling has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I am concerned that all of the sources reference Rousseff's impeachment or Operation Car wash (meaning they're not economic or accounting sources informing about a form of fraud but reporting on a political scandal). Additionally, this article only exists in English and Portuguese, indicating that "Fiscal pedaling" is not an established or widespread concept in economics or politics, outside of Lava Jato.

To be blunt, I am not sure that "fiscal pedaling" exists and may have been manufactured for political reason's against the Worker's party of Brazil.

The article in it's current state doesn't really address the controversy and complexity behind Lava Jato. Instead it presents fiscal pedaling as an established concepts in corruption by saying it "is a governmental creative accounting technique" and "gained popularity with the Brazilian Presidential election". Conversely, the Portuguese article better explains that the concept was invented during Rousseff's impeachment.

I think presenting this as an established concept -that is a form of corruption- misleads the reader by not acknowledging that the idea of fiscal pedaling was invented to discredit the Worker's Party in Brazil, whether legitimately or not

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.

If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time.

This is an automated notification. Please refer to the page's history for further information. DatBot (talk) 00:30, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

Joining forces for {{edit}} and {{la:nexus ad recensendum}}

Hi Mathglot!

I almost forgot when you mentioned turbocharging the {{edit}} template… Two years ago I wrote its Latin version. Since the English {{edit}} template is quite basic and I would need to translate it anyway, I rewrote it from scratch. To do that, I implemented the URL parameters that are documented in the Edit API (most of them):

However, as I discovered later, not all URL parameters are supported via wikitext (although many are), and some are supported only in API mode. But I never had the time to test them thoroughly. Now maybe I have a bit of time to fix the Latin template. I will also have to remove some parameters that, although formally supported, are not really useful in an {{edit}} template. Long story short, while the English template migh need turbocharging, the Latin template needs a bit of discharging instead. How about we join forces? :) --Grufo (talk) 17:06, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

Sunusi Dan Yaro is a film director and media professional with a background in video editing and post-production. He began his career working as a video editor, where he developed strong technical skills in visual storytelling, content structure, and production workflow. Over time, his practical experience across multiple productions led to a transition into film directing, with a focus on disciplined storytelling, production planning, and audience engagement. His work spans projects within Kannywood and Nollywood, contributing to productions recognized for both creative and academic relevance. His Film A Duniya has made many universities in Nigeria did so many research. Byteleads (talk) 17:06, 18 January 2026 (UTC)

Byteleads, writing an article at Wikipedia has a pretty steep learning curve. In addition, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, so the article would have to be of encyclopedic interest, and not just a CV or resume. Finally, if you are Sunusi Danyaro, or are connected with him personally or professionally, then you will have to WP:DISCLOSE your relationship on your Talk page. If you still want to try to write the article, I suggest you start by reading Help:Your first article, and then WP:Notability to determine whether Sunusi Danyaro meets the minimum threshold of notability required for an article at Wikipedia. The project you asked for a link to has been in the making for a couple of years but lost impetus because others who were originally interested either changed their focus on their Wikipedia contributions, or left WP completely, or I took an extended Wikibreak for personal reasons, or the WMF is not interested for the reasons I explained elsewhere. KeyolTranslater is on the right track but is not aware of the history The project has stalled simply because I do not have the basic programming skills to add some simple CSS, js and/or script to a couple of templates in the UIs. It needs to be completed and offered to the community as complete proof of concept leaving only an RfC for a binary decision to run a trial (much in the same way as we did for ACTRIAL). It hinges around this flowchart (it's nowhere near as complicated as it looks) which I designed, along with the elements behind it, some of which are lightly based on other users' ideas which never gained traction. The main hurdle is the tweak to the registration page. If you would like to help or learn more, please leave a message on my talk page. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:28, 18 January 2026 (UTC)

Draft feedback request

Hello Mathglot, I’ve created a draft article at Draft:Neuroparasitology using the AfC wizard and would appreciate any feedback when you have time, particularly since this is my first real attempt at a wiki page WCBeckerson (talk) 17:47, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

WCBeckerson, other than this article, can you tell me what other articles or topic areas interest you that you might wish to work on at Wikipedia? Mathglot (talk) 22:16, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
@Mathglot, I am a neuroparasitologist with 10 years of molecular genetics research experience. Neuroparasitology, as a field, is relatively new (last 10 years or so) and I have noticed there is not much on Wiki about it yet, despite an abundance of articles about its subject matter. I would therefore like to mainly contribute to biology-themed articles about molecular genetics, parasite-host relationships, and behavior manipulation. WCBeckerson (talk) 18:33, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
@Mathglot I noticed this and suggested on @WCBeckersons talk page they go ahead and submit for review Chidgk1 (talk) 18:03, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Shayhak Baloch (10:36, 20 January 2026)

Helloo Sir. Hope your doing well.Sir I am a student from Balochistan and I want to writer articles about my hone town kolowa(which is now dividedin two parts) is a historical place kf Balochistan and many historical persons wese from here.So I want some suggestion about doing it and also suggest me how I do this,adding pics,giving refrence all these. Waiting for your reply. --Shayhak Baloch (talk) 10:36, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello, Shayhak Baloch, and welcome! You can write about your town if you can find enough reliable, published material about it. Writing a new article is a difficult task for a new editor; you should consider starting with simpler tasks. If you want to see what is involved with creating an article, please see Help:Your first article. Also, did you know that there is an Urdu Wikipedia? See for example, ur:بلوچستان. Maybe you could start by writing about your town there. Is this the same Kolwa that is in the Awaran District? Mathglot (talk) 11:59, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Mousans (14:47, 27 January 2026)

dear Mentor, Im happy to have you around for the help! what is the first thing I should look into editing a wiki page? Thanks. --Mousans (talk) 14:47, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi, Mousans, if you are editing an existing page, you should understand that there are two editing tools you can use, the Visual Editor, and the Source Editor (also known as the Wikitext Editor. Most people find the Visual Editor easier to learn, but I prefer to use the Source Editor. You can try both of them out, making test edits in your sandbox to see how they work.
The next thing, is to understand that everything you add to a Wikipedia article must be verifiable—you cannot add your own ideas, opinions, or even your certain knowledge; everything must be backed up by reliable sources, such as books, academic journals, reputable magazines, and certain websites with a reputation for fact-checking, peer-review, neutrality, and reliability.
Do you have a specific article in mind that you would like to edit? Mathglot (talk) 08:10, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

A cup of coffee for you!

Thanks for your major rewrite of Transvestism in response to discussions at Talk:Cross-dressing#Merge_Transvestism_into_here?. The articles are clearly distinct now, and I think the medicalization angle you took is a correct approach for differentiation. Bluerasberry (talk) 23:05, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
Much appreciated! Mathglot (talk) 08:10, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Procedural confusion

Regarding this comment: I'm a bit confused why you chose to suggest that some procedural change needs to occur for the discussion, when no one else has expressed a concern and you don't feel that a change is needed. It just feels like a diversion from discussing the original proposal, and will incidentally make the discussion even longer. isaacl (talk) 03:58, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Isaacl, perhaps I should not have. There were already several mentions iirc about close or snow close, and I sometimes bend over backwards to represent views "fairly" even if they are not necessarily my own in the interest of serving the general interest. Maybe that is going overboard, and maybe I shouldn't do that, I dunno; and of course, maybe I misread what is in the general interest so I should just shut up. In a related example, I will not infrequently try and help a newbie make a better argument in opposition to my advocacy, if they have less knowledge of our P&G than me and are missing some good arguments to rebut me that they ought to know about. I feel it is better to develop a new editor than to "win" any particular dispute. Maybe I shouldn't do that either. Thanks for this message; it made me think about how I approach some things. What are your thoughts? Think I should change anything about my approach here? Mathglot (talk) 08:18, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
If you'd discussed the advantages and disadvantages of ending the conversation early based on whether or not there is near unaminous opposition to the proposal, then it would have been a continuation of that aspect of discussion. But you raised a novel concern about discussion length that you didn't personally share, with a remedy which you didn't support that no one had suggested yet with respect to that concern. Given that English Wikipedia discussions aren't typically curtailed solely on length, I don't think it was a good idea to raise it as a option if you weren't going to make an argument in support of it. Personally I think it would have been better to wait to see if anyone raised that particular line of argument before countering it. If no one does, then no one has to spend any time considering it. isaacl (talk) 16:33, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
isaacl, that's fair, and you make a good point. I will take you up on it, although my old patterns may reassert themselves occasionally, but hopefully I'll remember. Thanks for the input. Mathglot (talk) 03:21, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from ThyCheshireCat (05:34, 1 February 2026)

I've got a question relating to citing:

How does one go about citing a paywalled source that they don't have access to? I've got a draft sent for review, and while it does link to a good few reliable sources, there's still a few more sources I can find that I'd like to view and see if they reference any new information about the topic.

However; these sources are paywalled, and I can't afford to pay to access the source, especially considering I don't know how much they actually discuss the topic or if they offer new information.

On top of this, I don't have the ability to access the Wikipedia Library due to not meeting the requirements to join it, so I cannot access them this way.

Really stumped on how I should do this, or how/where I would go to request other people to look in my stead. Would appreciate a few tips on what to do from here. --ThyCheshireCat (talk) 05:34, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi, ThyCheshireCat, and thanks for your question; it is good one! It's good that you are already aware of The Wikipedia Library, though you cannot yet access it. There are a few possibilities:
 • Ask someone at the WP:Teahouse if they can check it for you. (A good section heading saying what you want may increase your chances.)
 • Do you have a public library card, or even better, a university library card or university login that works? That will get you tons (millions) of paywalled articles. (If you are an alumnus, you may have access without knowing it, or maybe they will grant you access if you explain why you need it. Contact your alumni office.)
 • Call a friend—if they have university access, maybe they can help.
 • Install the Unpaywall extension in your browser. This is a very cool widget that will tell you whether something is available somehow, or just not available.
 • There is one dicey method, but this is only an adjunct, and cannot be used alone. Chatbots like Gemini and others have access to paywalled journals (they must be paying for them to train their models better), but they won't just hand the source content to you. However, they can answer questions about what they know. If you have a very specific question about some source you cannot access, try asking a bot. Trouble is, they won't give you a page number, and you can't be sure that what they are saying is accurate, though it probably is; but you cannot cite it, obviously. But, if it confirms what you suspected, or gives you new, interesting information, you can redouble your efforts to get the original source by one of the other methods, and if it doesn't, maybe that source is not as promising as some other ones.
 • Try the Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request (WP:RX for short). This should be your last stop, not your first one, as there are fewer volunteers there, and their time is precious, but they are glad to help for the really tough cases.
I would be interested in hearing how you did—what worked, what didn't, and especially if you found some other method I don't know about. Mathglot (talk) 08:37, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Tobias Hare (18:55, 1 February 2026)

How do you in the first place "create" a Wikipedia page? how do you place images in the created page change text font text size and reference pages when you write something out does it automatically get referenced? And are there any tricks here where you can ask for polls surveys from people get data about where people click? --Tobias Hare (talk) 18:55, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi, Tobias.
 1. Creating a page: the easiest way to create a page is by clicking a red link, like this one: Basic Underwater Basketweaving 101. (Feel free to click that red link, but don't hit the Publish button.) However, until you have a minimum number of edits, you have to ask someone else to create the page for you.
 2. Adding images: See Help:Pictures.
 3. Text size and font: normally they are determined automtically by the software, and editors rarely have a reason to change it. Can you give me an example of some words or a sentence where you would like to change the font style or size, and the reason why?
 4. Referencing: I don't know what you mean by "reference pages when you write something out does it automatically get referenced". You can start by reading Help:Referencing for beginners, and then ask your question again.
 5. Click data: can you describe what it is you want exactly, and how this will help you improve articles here?
Thanks, and welcome to Wikipedia! Mathglot (talk) 03:18, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
I mean the blue things in your text
does that come automatically Help:Referencing For beginners Tobias Hare (talk) 16:57, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
Tobias Hare, the blue things are called wikilinks. They are part of the internet's system of hyperlinks. When you click a wikilink, it takes you somewhere else on the page, or to another page. They are not added automatically. You can create a wikilink yourself. If you are using the source editor, then you create a wikilink by placing the title of a page between square brackets, like this:
[[Liberation of France]]
The brackets turn the link blue, and make it clickable, like this:
Liberation of France
The procedure is different if you are using the Visual Editor. For that, see Help:VisualEditor#Editing links. Does this answer your question? Mathglot (talk) 01:05, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Page creation flowchart

Hi there! The flowchart which you recently queried is the overview of a very simple, fully interactive system I have designed (using some older input from others) which will entirely obviate the questions from new users such as 'How do I create an article?' Much easier and far less complex than the Growth Team's mentorship program, it will also reduce the pages in the New Pages Feed to a truly manageable backlog. If you are interested in knowing more, please let me know. It is the culmination of 16 years of work on NPP since I initiated the development of Page Curation. RfC Comment misplacements

Courtesy link: Talk:Syria

I've told the user who misplaced their comment to put it somewhere else. However, I will move it myself again if they don't respond to my request within a certain time (see the footnote against replying directly to my opening statement in the RfC) NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 01:47, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

NeoSyria, you should adhere to all talk page guidelines as well as guidelines for conducting an orderly Rfc. It is not up to you to decide that someone else's comment is misplaced, but if you believe it is, asking them to move it is the right approach. The user is not obligated to respond to your request, and if they do not, I would advise against moving their comments a second time. You could ask an admin if they think it would be acceptable for you to move it. (You can use {{Help admin}} from your Talk page to do so.) I think it is not acceptable; you have moved far too many comments already, possibly tainting the Rfc by your moves, and I see nothing in the guidelines permitting you to do so. Mathglot (talk) 06:35, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
@Mathglot I'll consider asking an administrator as an option. NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 07:01, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
+1 I've asked an administrator. I'll wait for their imput. I've collapsed the comment and its replies, and it would be an appropriate approach for now, considering that none of the comments directly replying to me deserve priority over every other comment. NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 07:26, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
NeoSyria, wise choice. Didn't see it in your contrib history, so assuming you asked the admin via email or irc, unless I missed it. By the way, you seem to keep shooting yourself in the foot; despite what I am convinced are your good intentions, you went ahead and interfered at the Rfc again (diff), this time collapsing what may be two votes, or at least, two comments, even though you asserted hours earlier that you would no longer be commenting at the Rfc (diff). Sheesh! Hopefully, this time for sure? By the way, for the sake of transparency, you should really add a link to this discussion in your message to the admin. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 07:59, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
you went ahead and interfered at the Rfc again (diff), this time collapsing what may be two votes, or at least, two comments, even though you asserted hours earlier that you would no longer be commenting at the Rfc again I haven't made any extra comments with my signature since that comment on that RfC, and I stand by my statement that it was appropriate per the link to the guideline you provided. Didn't see it in your contrib history, so assuming you asked the admin via email or irc, unless I missed it Yes, you did miss it; I didn't use email or something else. Hello! In the article, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1793_Philadelphia_yellow_fever_epidemic, the second reference has a link to another wikipedia article. I heard citing wikipedia isn't allowed. Is this allowed? --Electronmore (talk) 14:54, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Electronmore, good spot, and you are absolutely right! All citations must be to reliable sources, which generally means some form of peer review and editorial control. By definition, any website where you can publish your own edit with no peer review or editing is not reliable, and that includes Wikipedia, since anybody can publish their own edit. So, you are correct: Wikipedia is not a reliable source, so you cannot use it in a citation. I have gone ahead and removed that citation; thanks very much for bringing it to my attention! Friendly reminder: Wikipedia is not a battleground

I went ahead and made some adjustments to the Talk:Noam Chomsky page in the spirit of Wikipedia is not a battleground – namely, just collapsing the entire argument between you and the anonymous user as well as the part of their first comment which incited the argument. The tone of all of it was quite hostile and none of it had anything to do with improving the article and it seems most fair to me to just hide all of the above. You seem in general to be an earnest editor and to me it seems like you may just have some strong opinions on the matter of Chomsky which are difficult to contain when you encounter opposition, which I can understand. Nevertheless, it's always good to remember:

Every user is expected to interact with others civilly, calmly, and in a spirit of cooperation. Do not insult, disparage, harass, or try to intimidate those with whom you have a disagreement. (WP:BATTLE)

I left no further comment on the Chomsky page (other than a new unrelated section of my own, which is why I was there in the first place): just collapsed the argument and the inciting contentious opinion.

Cheers, fellow wiki enjoyer. — Saturnine (talk) 23:29, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Tobias Hare, I would have, but as you only waited 20 minutes after asking me before submitting your draft, there seems little point to doing so now. You might as well wait for the Afc reviewers' feedback at this point, which will be a "Decline", along with some recommendations about what to do next, and perhaps some on-page Afc comments. In general, I can say that you are moving too fast and taking a lot of shortcuts. "Submission declined on 8 February 2026 by Bonadea (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Question from OberstFischer1945 (14:50, 12 February 2026)

How do I find reliable sources for articles covering games that aren't very notable? --OberstFischer1945 (talk) 14:50, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

OberstFischer1945, can you be more specific? Exactly what topic are you researching?
As an additional note: are you using the word notable in the Wikipedia sense of WP:Notability, or just the normal, English sense of something that is worthy of note; remarkable; memorable? If the former sense, there is a paradox involved, namely, if you are already sure that it isn't WP:Notable in the Wikipedia sense, then it is pointless to look for sources, as a non-WP:Notable topic cannot have an article, and if one is written anyway, it will be deleted. So it is pretty important to use the word notable carefully at Wikipedia, so other editors don't misunderstand you. Mathglot (talk) 23:14, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
