Claire Dodgson, ACE, is a British-American film editor best known for her work on major animated feature films, predominantly for the studio Illumination n. She has also edited live-action features, including the blockbuster sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022). She is an elected member of the honorary society American Cinema Editors (ACE).[1] In 2018, she was nominated for the ACE Eddie Award for Best Edited Animated Feature Film for her work on Despicable Me 3.[2][3] Dodgson has given interviews about the technical aspects of her work, particularly the differences between editing live-action and animation.[4]
Background and early career
Dodgson is an alumna of the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in the United Kingdom, where she studied film editing.[3] She began her career in editorial departments, contributing to the stop-motion film Corpse Bride (2005) and Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009).[5] She also gained experience in television as a lead editor on the BAFTA-winning children's animated series Charlie and Lola (2006–2007).[6]
Feature film editing
Dodgson is a long-time collaborator with the animation studio Illumination, editing several films within the Despicable Me universe.[7] Her feature editing credits for Illumination include The Lorax (2012), Minions (2015), Despicable Me 3 (2017), and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022).[5] Her ACE Eddie nomination for Despicable Me 3 is considered a highlight of her career, and she frequently speaks on the specialized craft of animation editing.[3][4] She later edited the live-action sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022).[5]
