Article title

User:Globe-trotter recently renamed the article from Sukhumvit Line to BTS Sukhumvit Line. I think this is unnecessarily overprecise (see WP:PRECISE), since this is not the subject's natural and common name, and there is no risk of confusion since there are no other lines named Sukhumvit. For comparison, Bakerloo line is not at Bakerloo tube line. (The MRT lines are another matter since colour names are common.) I'll move the page back if no one objects. --Paul_012 (talk) 05:54, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

BTS prefix

Recently the prefix "BTS" is systematically being added in front of every occurrence of "Sukhumvit line". This creates a lot of visual and mental clutter. In the system itself this prefix is very rarely added. It is not used on the signage in the stations, nor on the maps in and around the stations. It is not added in the ticketing machines, nor on the dynamic displays in the trains. On the online "area maps" the prefix is not seen. The only place where it is sometimes used is on the overall title "BTS Skytrain Route Map", but not for individual lines. WP reflects the real world, therefore I propose to remove this prefix from the WP articles. Woodstone (talk) 10:54, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Agreed. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:03, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

The use of the prefix BTS exists in only 2 places in this article, the Legend/Summary box and BTS Summary Extensions. How is 2 uses of the prefix either "Systematically added" or creating "a lot of visual and mental clutter". That really does seem rather exaggerated.

As previously advised, the official BTS online map and BTSC Annual reports refer to the line as "BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit line" and "BTS Skytrain Silom line". Most pax users refer to both lines as BTS. Accordingly it seems reasonable to reflect that especially when the main article is titled, "BTS Skytrain" not just Skytrain. I would actually say that it is inconsistent to have the main article titled "BTS Skytrain" and the two related articles not use the BTS prefix. ( I also note that the icon links used on all BKK transit pages are titled, BTS so again there is inconsistency in the WP articles). The question seems very simple, is this a BTS line or not? Further, does it improve consistency, and the accuracy of the article to use the BTS prefix or does the inclusion of the BTS prefix create confusion or is it somehow incorrect? Title capitalisation

I've reverted the unilateral move from 2020. All the sources I checked on Google News treat the name as a proper noun.

  • Bangkok Post - always capitalised
  • Thaiger - always capitalised
  • Railway Technology - capitalised
  • Railway-News - capitalised
  • Railway Gazette - capitalised
  • Khaosod English - capitalised
  • Coconuts Bangkok - capitalised
  • Pattaya Mail - capitalised
  • International Railway Journal - capitalised
  • Consultancy.asia - capitalised

Requested move 21 December 2025

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Withdrawn. There is a clear consensus against moving {Sukhumvit Line to Light Green Line (Bangkok)} and {Silom Line to Dark Green Line (Bangkok)}, however I don't believe that enough discussion regarding proposals to move {SRT Light Red Line to Light Red Line (Bangkok)} and {SRT Dark Red Line to Dark Red Line (Bangkok)} thus I've created another requested move to address the last two articles at Talk:SRT Dark Red Line#Requested move 30 December 2025 (non-admin closure) Jothefiredragon🐲talk🔥contributions🧨logmail🐉global 17:10, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

– The main reason for the move request is for consistency with other articles of operational electric train lines in Bangkok Metropolitan Region:

Other reasons specific to Sukhumvit Line and Silom Line are:

  1. “Sukhumvit Line” and “Silom Line” are names from Thai language instead of English, whereas Light Green Line (Bangkok) and Dark Green Line (Bangkok) are.
  2. As sources often refer to both “Sukhumvit Line” and “Silom Line” as simply “Green Line”, having Light Green Line (Bangkok) and Dark Green Line (Bangkok) as article titles makes the structure of Bangkok's confusing train network a bit easier to comprehend.
  3. Another potential source of confusion comes from the fact that although “Sukhumvit Line” has 21 stations above the namesake road (Sukhumvit Road), “Silom Line” only has one above the namesake road (Si Lom Road).

However it should be noted that per @Paul_012 in Talk:Sukhumvit Line#Title capitalisation, the Thai names (Sukhumvit Line and Silom Line) are the only names used in sources and also are the official names.Jothefiredragon🐲talk🔥contributions🧨logmail🐉global 18:32, 21 December 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. Vestrian24Bio 04:40, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Oppose all per WP:NATURALDIS, and last two supplemented by WP:COMMONNAME . Additionally the first and third pointers in nom’s statement are irrelevant based on our P&G (unless the nom can point out exactly which policies support their statements). We don’t change the title of Tokyo Metro Namboku Line to “Tokyo Metro North South Line” simply because “Namboku” comes from Japanese, and we don’t change the title of Toei Shinjuku Line even though only two stations on its route contains “Shinjuku”.
