Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Before posting a request for unprotection, please discuss it with the protecting administrator first. You can create a request below only if you receive no response from them.

To find out which administrator protected the page, go to the page's edit history and click on the "View logs for this page" link (located underneath the page's title). The protecting administrator is listed in the protection log entry, next to the words "protected", "changed protection level", or "configured pending changes". If there are a large number of log entries on the page, use the drop-down menu near the top of the page and select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" to filter the logs accordingly.

DO NOT request a reduction in protection if...

  • ...you are being prevented from editing the page. A desire to change content is not a valid reason for unprotection. Instead:
    • If you can edit the article's talk page, use the WP:Edit Request Wizard to propose a change on the article's talk page. Include an explanation of the exact content that you want to change, and what the content will be afterward.
    • If the article's talk page is protected, you may propose a change at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Edit.
  • ...your reasoning for reducing protection is that the article has not been vandalized. That simply means the protection is working as intended.
  • ...your reasoning for reducing protection is basically "a long time has passed" without supporting details.
  • ...you haven't contacted the protecting administrator.

You may request a protection reduction below if...

  • ...you want to change the protection level of a template or module from full protection to template protection. You may add the request to this page without having to discuss it with the protecting administrator first.
  • ...you need to remove creation protection from a location where no page exists (redlinked pages) after a draft version of the intended article is prepared beforehand and ready to be published.
  • ...you are proposing a trial reduction in protection for a page that has been protected for several years, provided the proposal is supported by evidence such as talk page activity, page views, page traffic, number of watchers, frequency of edit requests, and prior history of vandalism.
  • ...the protecting administrator is inactive or has not responded to you in several days.

If you cannot locate your request, make sure to check the request archives to see if it's been moved there. Only requests that have been recently answered will still be listed here.

Please add an edit request to the talk page of the protected page before adding an edit request here

Requests for specific edits should be made on the talk page of the protected article. You can create an edit request below only if the talk page is also protected, preventing you from adding a request there.

Gaza war

Here's the relevant text in the article:

> The Israeli government's response prompted international protests, arrests, and harassment.[835]

The relevant source:

> "2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Israel, West Bank and Gaza". US Department of State. 2023. Retrieved 10 June 2024.

The source is totally misrepresented (quite possibly by accident). It has nothing to do with international reactions; it actually reviews the abysmal state of human rights in Israel. Looks like a decent source that could be used elsewhere though. Also, I think the reference to "harassment" is quite vague, and should be dropped unless some source supporting it can be found.

Thanks very much for all your hard work. ~2026-27973-7 (talk) 22:20, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Talk:Kosovo

Looking to have this edit placed on the Talk page for Kosovo.

The section 'History,' subsection 'Kosovo War,' second paragraph, last sentence:

'By 1996, the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), an ethnic Albanian guerrilla paramilitary group that sought the separation of Kosovo and the eventual creation of a Greater Albania,[121] had prevailed over the Rugova's non-violent resistance movement and launched attacks against the Yugoslav Army and Serbian police in Kosovo, resulting in the Kosovo War.[117][122]'

I'm struggling to understand the use of 'the Rugova's' - it seems like an error. Could this perhaps be referring to Rugova and his wife (or even brother, other family member) working in tandem towards their movement? (e.g. JFK and RFK during JFK's presidency - 'The Kennedy's')

Or, is error the precedent 'the,' and Rugova was a singular figure leading said movement?

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

User:Saimmx

I translate articles from other languages, usually from Chinese. I am an autoreviewer or autopatrolled on Chinese Wikipedia, English Wikivoyage, and Chinese Wikivoyage, and I have created 25 articles on English Wikipedia now. I am therefore interested in the right and believe that I am familiar with the policies and guidelines that autopatrolled may need on the English Wikipedia. Saimmx (talk) 12:17, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

@Saimmx Why ae you interested in the userright? and I have created 25 articles on English Wikipedia now. I am therefore interested in the right seems odd for a userright that grants you no extra privileges (except I guess the ability to unreview your own pages). Sohom (talk) 18:19, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
@Saimmx: Thanks for the translation work you've been doing here on the English Wikipedia! However, I'm seeing a few quality issues in the articles you created last year. The sourcing on List of busiest passenger flight routes and List of busiest passenger flight routes in the 2010s is not ideal — there's quite a heavy reliance on primary sources for statistics, as well as on RoutesOnline, which seems to need more care in its usage based on this April 2025 RfC. Also, on Childhood (Tetsuya Takeda song), an anonymous editor had to fix quite a few translation and formatting errors that had crept in (diff). I haven't done a throuogh scan of your work, but these points seem to indicate that it would be beneficial for new pages patrol to continue reviewing your creations. (Non-administrator comment) TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 20:24, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
  • (Non-administrator comment) I agree with @TechnoSquirrel69. Kitamura Sae bibliography still requires translation from Japanese to English, and was last edited a month ago. I can't locate the exact guideline/policy page, but English Wikipedia requires all articles to be written in English. This, among the other issues flagged by @TS69, suggests that your article creations should still be reviewed by NPP. Thank you for your translation contributions and happy editing! 11WB (talk) 18:45, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

User:KeyolTranslater

Good day everyone, I am here today to place a request to be an New page reviewer. I have over 500 live mainspace edits and I have been a confirmed user since August 2025. I have had experience with writing, improving and having pages declined (which I then improved and learnt why they were declined), I have also have experience with AFD requests (which I have made a few when appropriate). I have also helped out at the Teahouse and helped other users with edits and drafts.

One of the main reasons why I would like to become an AFC reviewer is because I have seen an influx of what I call “Dud” articles, articles which don’t abide by Wikipedia’s rules, or aren’t notable (you see a lot on the Teahouse, and on the Draft list, articles about an individual, a family member or personal company), and I would like to help out in my spare time to clear up these articles and help with the backlog.

Thank you for reading. Mwen Sé Kéyòl Translator-a (talk) 20:44, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

Right after writing this request I realised I might’ve put my request in the wrong place, and so I read both pages again and I do realise that NPP is new pages, and AFC is drafts, and I think I have made a mistake, although wouldn’t mind helping both. Apologies if I have taken up our time. Mwen Sé Kéyòl Translator-a (talk) 15:07, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

User:Medievalfran

Hi there! I'd like to request page reviewer rights - it's something I haven't really considered before, but spurred on by the backlog of women's biographies that need reviewing according to the Women in Red initiative. I have a good track record of creating/ improving articles to beyond stub level, and have been through the AFC process or supported new editors through the process both virtually-only and at in person wikithons that I lead or co-facilitate. I make clear to new editors if their ideas for new articles are not suitable (do not meet notability criteria, not enough sources), and support them to find other pages on-wiki where their well-sourced information can live. Thanks for considering me! Medievalfran (talk) 12:38, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) Hello @Medievalfran! Your talk page shows you've had at least a couple of articles accepted through AfC, though Walter C. Leedy does have some sourcing issues, specifically WP:BLOGGER, which should not be used in biography articles like that one. You have no history at WP:AfD, I would highly recommend getting some experience there by participating in some discussions and !voting. Focusing on topics that interest you would be the easiest way to get involved! AfD history is one of the primary things administrators who grant NPR look for, as it can demonstrate knowledge of the relevant policies and guidelines that are important when reviewing articles. You say you've supported editors through AfC, this would demonstrate excellent experience, so I would recommend leaving some links here so the admins can take a look when they begin reviewing this request! Thanks for applying and good luck! 11WB (talk) 10:02, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

User:TrueMoriarty

Hello. I am requesting rollback rights to combat vandalism in Wikipedia. I qualify to all the criteria mentioned above. I have been in monthly top five pending changes reviewer multiple times and I think if I have rollback rights, I can prevent vandalism even better and make Wikipedia a nicer place. Also, I have read the Wikipedia articles on rollback and reviewing changes thoroughly. TrueMoriarty (talk) 12:39, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

@TrueMoriarty although it's not directly relevant to rollback, I'm concerned about your very recent brush with copright (cc Diannaa). Is there anything you can say about that that would make me more comfortable? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:22, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
@HJ Mitchell. Hello. I deeply regret what occurred about that copyright issue, but believe me, my intentions were not bad. It was purely an accident and here’s what really happened. It is slightly troublesome to change tabs repeatedly while creating an article, so I copy-pasted the whole thing in my sandbox, where I thought I would peacefully take information from the article in question to the article I was creating. While creating the article, I was fully aware of copyright, notability, style and other guidelines but at that certain moment I was under considerable mental pressure and I accidentally mistook some paragraphs of the copy-pasted article as written by me so I just gave references and published it. It was kind of a mix-up. Like my paragraphs were there and so were the paragraphs of the copy-pasted articles and I accidentally deleted mine and kept the copy-pasted ones. Once again, I apologize sincerely for my mistakes and I hope I will be forgiven and be given rollback rights. Have good day!TrueMoriarty (talk) 07:32, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello, I regularly patrol recent changes and I would love to have more tool access for better counter-vandalism efficiency. Jiltedsquirrel 🌰 (talk || contribs) 23:31, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

I am requesting rollback rights because I want to be able to continue and help with the fight against vandalism. Recently, I have become more aware of the tools out there used to assist someone in reviewing recent change logs and being able to quickly fix vandalism. Most if not all of these tools require rollback permissions. I understand if one may be hesitant to grant due to my past but I can assure you that I have working hard to prove that I am here to edit in good faith and help to keep Wikipedia safe and reliable. If possible, I would like these rights to be granted (even if I need to go under a trial to prove I am not going to abuse). Thank you, AirmanKitten203 (talk) 03:04, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

I have more main-space edits than that. AirmanKitten203 (talk) 12:23, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) AirmanKitten203, you can see your edits by namespace on xtools, where it says you have 37 mainspace contributions. Any edits in talk:, wikipedia:, draft:, user:, etc are not counted towards this number. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 15:13, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
Not done; per the box at the top we would like to see at least 200 mainspace edits. Giraffer (talk) 15:22, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. I didn't realize that it didn't count. AirmanKitten203 (talk) 15:34, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

Reason for requesting rollback rights Would like to try out WikiShield to see if it will improve the experience of RC patrol G Zhong 18:49, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

I have been involved with stopping vandalism whenever I see it. I make sure to warn the vandal as soon as I can. I am well versed in the policies and will not abuse the privilege. Thank you for your time. Dafootballguy (talk) 03:16, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Requests for template editor

Template editor

User:CapnZapp

I should begin by saying I'm not even sure this is the right action to take. I don't see myself needing to edit high-risk templates, work in sandboxes, or answer edit requests. However, several much more "ordinary" templates are protected nowadays, and I feel sufficiently established I don't want to bother others with relatively trivial changes, such as textual changes that don't require mastery of wiki or lua code. I do feel confident I won't accidentally wreck things. If you reading this really think we still live in an ideal world where only templates that would otherwise need full protection have template protection, then you should deny this request. Otherwise, I can think of maybe one instance every other month where I just left something alone even though having this right would enable to quickly fix something small, with next to no risk. Cheers, CapnZapp (talk) 17:41, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Can you provide some examples of successful requests and examples of changes you'd make if you had the user right? voorts (talk/contributions) 17:59, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Requests for temporary account IP viewer

Temporary account IP viewer

User:EchidnaLives

I was granted the permission in November until the 1st of January, and would like to re-request it. I utilised it a few times when monitoring vandals who were using numerous temporary accounts, and would like to continue to have access to the tool for future anti-vandalism efforts. I continue to understand the relevant policy and will follow it at all times when viewing the IPs of temporary accounts. Thanks, echidnalives - talk - edits 09:11, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Early Anon work, no need to bug the developers

Up to Dec 16, 2003, all the edits at these anonymous id's were mine (59 edits):

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
