Raster Atrocities

Mars Atmosphere Gases

You replace raster images with SVGs: very good, especially when you eliminate the JPEG dirt. But I have three quibbles about this concrete images.

First, do not neglect a proper categorization. After you upload this good SVG histogram, it appeared only in two categories, missing even such topical one as commons:Category:Atmosphere of Mars. Meanwhile, the JPEG was present in a dozen of categories.

Second, do not use solid background, please. It would better to be transparent.

Third, correction of evident misspells is highly encouraged. You had a choice between using {{Rename}} on the JPEG file or ignoring the problem, but in any case, you had to upload your image under a name without spelling mistakes.

Best wishes, Incnis Mrsi (talk) 16:20, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Sure, thanks for all the tips. By the way, this particular image I found hard to replace, may be because it is visually different, but there is no way I am mangling data presentation with pointless graphics. melikamp (talk) 01:10, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
talk: Atmosphere of Mars #SVG version of a chart contains some more suggestions. I could easily made it myself but converting text (back) to text – it is you who has the original file, not me. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 19:58, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I found that R (which I used to produce this and some other diagrams) saves text as path in svg, and as text in pdf. To work around this, I could just save as pdf, then convert to svg. ...A terrible idea that was. Text in svg comes out so ugly, wiki can't render it correctly. Plan B: input text manually. melikamp (talk) 23:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Rucker

Thanks for putting up the Rucker pic--I'd been hoping to do that myself one of these days. It really adds a lot to a page.

Tell me, do you think I've gone overboard in revising the Ware Tetralogy article? Feel free to prune me back if need be.

Um, I am not really a fan of R.R. as a writer, and I haven't read any of his books. He just happens to be a former Comp. Science teacher of mine :) melikamp 06:49, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

If you've never read them, how do you know you're not a fan? ;) Nareek 16:12, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Change Picture

Hi there, I'm trying to change the picture on the Sir Chloe page to a picture of just Sir Chloe the artist. Her backing band changes regularly, would it be possible to change the photo to one where she is the only one pictured or in the foreground? Grundle67 (talk) 14:58, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Like a crop of what's there now? melikamp (talk) 17:36, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
