Changing citation style
In your recent update to Grange Lido you changed the citation style. Listing references at the end in the "References" section is an acceptable en.wiki style, so if that style is the one established when the article is created it should be retained. See WP:CITEVARNO which explicitly lists, as an action to avoid, "changing where the references are defined, e.g., moving reference definitions in the reflist to the prose".
As it happens, I created that article during a short phase when I preferred that style and I've now decided I don't like it and I don't use it in new articles (it gets very tricky when trying to edit on a phone where only a section at time can be edited). So in this case, no harm done - but I can imagine other editors getting upset if you change their chosen citation style without any discussion and without even mentioning it explicitly in the edit summary. So please don't change the existing citation style in an article like this in future. Thanks. PamD 07:48, 28 June 2025 (UTC)

Call me old fashioned but a simple 'hello' or even a 'thanks for your recent update of the article but I just wanted to mention...' would've been a more considerate way to start the conversation, but ok. Your explanation has been duly noted for future reference; I'd never seen or been aware of WP:CITEVARNO. I guess I've kept in mind WP:BOLD with my editing, especially as the edit in question didn't involve any deletion, just relocation within the text of an article to match current templates. Citation updates to Manchester tallest buildings page
Hi @Mmberney. I am requesting help in understanding how to simplify citations when they are to be repeated - I see that you have helped to improve upon my edits with this. Recent examples being 'Cotton Quay' tower 2 etc. I have just made an edit to the 'approved' section but could not work out how to make number 30 'X1 Michigan Gardens Tower 3' citation simplified the same as number 16 for Tower 1. As I am now working through all approved and proposed buildings in the next week I see this issue coming up more times - so thanks in advance if you can help fix these citations. - Hi ChrisClarke88, thanks once again for all that you do to keep the lists as up to date as possible - not a simple task! Happy to assist on the citations if I can.
- So if you had a citation from, say, Place North West by the author Joe Bloggs, you'd typically start with: <ref>{{cite web |last=Bloggs |first=Joe |date=24 August 2025...etc.
- If you wanted to repeat that citation for another entry, you need to ensure the very first instance of that reference states: <ref name="Bloggs">{{cite web |last=Bloggs |first=Joe |date=24 August 2025...etc AND THEN for the repeated citation you would only have to write the following after the sentence / information you wanted to cite: < ref name="Bloggs" /> (but without the space between "<" and "ref" - the way Wikipedia is set up means if I write it correctly you can't see the specific text as it thinks I'm adding a citation to this message).
- You don't have to choose the surname of the author by the way, the "ref name" can be absolutely anything as long as it's not a repeat of any of the other "ref names" in that specific article.
- The same goes for multiple entries with the same reference; just use < ref name="Bloggs" />, again without the space at the beginning. Hope that helps! Mmberney (talk) 20:40, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
