Logo
Hiya, is there any possibility you could use your image editing skills to make a logo for the "alphabet run" events? Perhaps with the letters A and Z on it, or perhaps a mix of different letters and a silhouette of a runner? I'm sure you have better ideas ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:25, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi MSGJ. I am going to think about this. I imagine the letters running. Reach may exceed grasp so I need to think about it for awhile. I always like making logos (time permitting) . Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:51, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Amanda Burden edits
Hi WomenArtistUpdates, good to meet you. I am employed by Michael Bloomberg and affiliated organizations/individuals; my connection is declared per Wikipedia's policies. I saw your impressive contributions to the encyclopedia, particularly to other women and female urban planners, and I'd be grateful for your help with some changes on Amanda Burden's entry as well. She served as the director of the New York City Department of City Planning and the chair of the City Planning Commission. Her article currently contains some information that is misleading and irrelevant. I posted the edit request on the article Talk page. Look forward to your review and assistance. Thank you, DLARoss (talk) 13:06, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Malarkey
Looks like there are some shenanigans happening. Did you see THIS? Also it appears there is coordination happening between two editors: Editor One's original user page, and Editor Two's draft other editor's draft, note the user name of the editor who created the draft, it's the same as the subject of the AfD. And now what may be a sock has appeared on the article at AfD's talk page after the COIN report and after I left an inquiry on Editor One's talk page. Eyes are welcome on the situation, if you are not still watching the AfD. Netherzone (talk) 19:45, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Netherzone, Yes indeed these SPAs are all up in each other's article. I think we had the article in good shape here. It appears to me that these three users do not understand the basics of editing, RS citations, and notability. I will look for the correct gentle warnings to put on their talk pages. I will also revert the Mater article back to the best version that we both !voted !keep on. We can keep an eye on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Ahmed_Mater but I am unsure what other notice boards should be notified. Check-user should reveal Profarthist sock, so I guess hold off on that? What do you suggest? I can't tell if I have lost perspective because we spent hours saving the article, only to have it trashed by WP:CIR editors. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 23:21, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- It would be great to remove the newly added unsourced content as well as the content sourced to HuffPost "Contributor", per WP:HUFFPOCON, and the other source that is a self-published book. Both added by Profarthist. My thinking is to wait and see if editing continues before opening a SPI. I'm certain they are related but not sure yet if it's meat or sock. Thank you for keeping your eyes on the situation! Netherzone (talk) 23:39, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Netherzone, I have reverted the saved article to where it should be IMO. This one has been dinged. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:15, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Did you notice that user AhmedMater had previously disclosed that they had a conflict of interest on Draft:Arif Alnomay, then removed both the AfC template and their statement that
I disclose that I have a conflict of interest regarding the subject of this article.
Netherzone (talk) 00:23, 9 May 2025 (UTC)- Netherzone, Sigh, I think I need to stay away from AfD for the evening. The end of the semester always irritates me :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:28, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Lena Constante portrait
It's from the documentary film "Nebunia capetelor"/"Face Mania" (1997) by Thomas Ciulei. I believe he used it for the official poster. He's screened his films at MoMa & similar venues and is well known in artistic circles.
Do you have the right to put it on Wiki? Did you try to find the author? Did you ask for his permission? I very much doubt it.
Anyone can see it's an extraordinary portrait, not just some snapshot taken in a public place. You can't just grab such photos and use them, it's theft. Please do the right thing now. Cheers, Arminden (talk) 21:17, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hello Arminden, I'm not @WomenArtistUpdates, but have been familiar with her work here for a number of years, so I'm going to jump into this discussion as I know they are a busy editor. Using photographs under as "fair use" for deceased persons is allowed if it is a historical portrait, and is within fair use specifications (size limitations, used in the article infobox as a means of visual identification for educational purposes, limited use, etc.) Fair use photos should be uploaded to Wikipedia, not to Wikimedia Commons, and it appears WAU has done so. Netherzone (talk) 21:29, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. What I know is that Thomas lives in Romania & Germany, so in the EU where copyrights are very strict, that his films are part of his livelyhood, and that he's not giving things away for free. He's not dead, and he's the (c) owner, so I wouldn't bet much on that "fair use" angle. Artists own their work, period. Arminden (talk) 23:27, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Arminden, I have uploaded the file correctly for fair use on English Wikipedia. It is a small size and you added credit for the the image as a still from the documentary film "Nebunia capetelor" / "Face Mania" (1997) by Thomas Ciulei. Please read Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use/Fair use rationale. I believe I have the right to put this striking portrait in the English Wikipedia article on Lena Constante. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:25, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi WomenArtistUpdates, and thanks. Actually, it was me who has added the info re. Thomas Ciulei and the film. You have uploaded it w/o any credit whatsoever. As an additional proof, roWiki uses it that way, lacking any credit, as it appeared when you uploaded it. I won't go into copyright legislation, I'm not a lawyer, and most certainly don't trust Wiki as a legal source, but I know for sure that that use is in no way OK, neither legally, nor morally. If you do put more weight on Wiki rules than I do, then please read what Netherzone has written here-above: "Fair use photos should be uploaded to Wikipedia, not to Wikimedia Commons, and it appears WAU has done so." Which isn't my opinion, but his. Cheers, Arminden (talk) 05:21, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Clarification: WAU has uploaded it properly to Wikipedia. She did not upload to Commons. Netherzone (talk) 07:07, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Contrast
Hi, just to let you know that I have added a "contrast" column to the table on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red/events to show if the background colour meets the required contrast ratio in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. You'll see that most pass easily, but there are a couple of non-conforming colour choices. Hope this helps for future events — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:40, 30 June 2025 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:Photo of Ovilu Tunnillie.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Photo of Ovilu Tunnillie.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

John Ferry
Hallo, I'm puzzled by this edit as 3 of the 4 directorships are verified in the refs. I think we can use Companies House OK for directorships, just not for dates of birth. (But the person appears non-notable, and the creating editor looks surprisingly near-competent for their first and only edits, so I'll be happy to see it deleted at AfD eventually). PamD 11:53, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi PamD, You are correct that the references DO provide verification. Thank you for reverting! A quick check looked like a generic landing page with multiple John Ferry's listed.
- I think I came back from my wiki break to soon. I am still too irritated by the shenanigans of editors to AGF. Really, overwriting a Dab page on a first edit!. Outrageous. I need to go back to break status :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 14:35, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Photo of Hazel Henderson.png

Thanks for uploading File:Photo of Hazel Henderson.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of non-free use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:30, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- note to self - replaced with younger fair use image. (not as flattering IMO) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:03, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Pings
Hi, hope you're doing well. Do you know if there is a template which produces "Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ, TheResilientEngineer, Grnrchst, TSventon, Oronsay and all WIR helpers", and if so can I remove my name from it? I am happy to continue helping whenever you need anything but it seems the new system has now bedded in, so perhaps I don't need all these pings. Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:04, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

- Hi MSGJ, Nope, no template :) I think whoever sends out the group ping just copies from the previous group ping. You may never get off of the list! I am doing December, so I will leave you off the pings I send towards the end of November and hope that resolves the issue. However, I may contact you directly when I make the new #1day1woman initiative 2026 at the end of December.
- You may notice that I am backing off from the coordinating portion myself. I find I can make the pages for the annual events and set meet-ups easy-peasy from Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/events. The rest of the stuff can just roll out as others wish. Making the new pages takes me about 30 minutes with your template. Thank you for sticking with us on this. I agree that the new system is in place. ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:41, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Photo of Alice Halicka.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Photo of Alice Halicka.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. REAL 💬 ⬆ 00:30, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
- note to self - oops. uploaded in September 2017. Looks like I ran afoul of a commercial source. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:26, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
